Armez's Story
Armez was referred by newCHAPTER2 to participate in a BOB Industry Night. This event featured upcoming opportunities for Promoters to distribute the 24hr paper with local employer, Nasco. Armez said that he “liked the format because of the interaction between applicants and interviewers.” He said the participants represented “an interesting slice of life”.
Armez has a wide range of work experiences. His background includes; art, acting, costume design, and customer service/office administration and he was looking for flexible, part-time work.
After participating in the 2 day BusinessLinks Promoter program which included an opportunity to job shadow, Armez had a formal interview with Nasco. He was hired as a Promoter and started work in April 09. Due to a strong sensitivity to smell, Armez was initially concerned about working out on the street. However, not only has he managed to retain his employment, but has been thriving in his new position.
Since starting with Nasco, Armez has been very consistent in distributing a high volume of papers. He attributes his success to his voice and knowing how to project it to grab the attention of commuters. Armez has also developed good rapport with locals he sees on the street during his shifts.
