Army and Navy has SOLE!
Army & Navy has been holding their Legendary Shoe Sale for decades and it has become enmeshed in the history of the DTES community. Shoppers queue outside of the store for hours before the doors open and by the time it’s finished, over 100 000 pairs of shoes have walked out the door.
Through our BusinessLinks program, BOB was able to connect 23 Inner-City residents with work at Army and Navy this year (2010). Colin Pierce, HR manager for Army & Navy, participated in the BusinessLinks session by providing an overview of the job opportunities, leading a workplace tour, and showing a Shoe Sale documentary. Colin helped to prepare all the participants to work in what would prove to be a very busy, chaotic and rewarding work environment. He was thrilled with the outcome of the event;
“Partnering with BOB during the BusinessLinks program saved us so much time and provided us with such a terrific group. We wish we could have kept every one of them”.
Following the famous shoe sale, five of the group have been placed in permanent positions with Army and Navy and other local employers. Congratulations to all involved and thank you to Army and Navy for their continued commitment to hiring locally.
