Job Description/Duties:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Support Workers with Atira Women's Resource Society. We are a feminist-based organization offering a challenging and rewarding work environment. An understanding of the dynamics of violence against women and other forms of oppression is an asset.
Responsibilities:
- Front-line Support Work
- Scheduling
- Advocacy & Resource information
- Compiling statistics & preparing reports
- Liaise with other organizations and transition houses
- Assess & interview potential residents for CSC Program Orientation for new staff Accompaniments
Additional Requisites:
- A valid First Aid certificate is required.
- Must be computer literate.
- All positions are subject to a criminal records investigation.
- Documentation of TB test
Education: Formal education/credentials will count only as much as work experience.
Experience:
Minimum one-year experience as a front-line support worker for women impacted by violence committed against them by their intimate partner and/or other family members. Awareness of the impact on women leaving federal institution. Services to be delivered in a manner consistent with Atira Women's Resource Society's feminist-based philosophy, and take into consideration all forms of oppression facing the women who live at Ama House.
- Must subscribe to a feminist analysis of violence against women and have a commitment to/understanding of anti-oppression work and the intersectionality of oppression.
- Must have a well-developed analysis of the impact/legacy of colonization and assimilation and the resulting impact on First Nations/Metis women.
- Must be open to working with women who have substance use issues and/or a mental health diagnosis.
- Preference given to candidates who also have some management/administrative skills. Must be computer literate.
