H.A.V.E. Cafe FREE 8-Weeks On-going Culinary Training Program!
Do you know someone who might be interested in working in the Food Services Industry? H.A.V.E. Café has a free 8 Weeks Culinary training program which provides Food Safe certification as well as job placements upon completion. The program is designed to incorporate both life skills and occupational training to the prep cook level.
This training program is on-going and is eligible for anyone who has not been on Employment Insurance in the past 3 years. The course will run Monday to Friday from 8am to 3pm for 8 weeks. All participants will receive breakfast/lunch daily and bus fares are paid for.

Lookout/BOB Cycleback Bicycle Repair Training
Do you know someone who loves working with their hands, mechanics and people?
If they are connected to Vancouver’s Inner city, and are interested in a career and training in bicycle repairs this program may be for them. It is a 6 weeks program, followed by a 2 week work placement.
This is an on-going program and intakes will be taken every 6 weeks.

October 13 2009 Industry Night - Open to interested applicants and agencies to meet the companies and find out more information about the Commercial Cleaning and Building Services industry and job opportunities. This will be the opportunity to sign up for BOB's BusinessLinks Building Services Training.
October 14-15 - Intakes for the BusinessLinks Building Services Training. This will be scheduled at the Industry Night or from referrals of our partnering agencies.
October 19-23 - BusinessLinks Building Services Training. This training will include life skills, commercial cleaning skills and building services training.

October 3, 2009 - Job Fair at 163 East Pender (time tba)
Partnering with Nesters Market, London Drugs and other companies who are moving into the new Woodward's building, BOB will be putting on a Customer Service training and preparation for the Nesters Job Fair on October 3rd at the BOB office, 163 East Pender. The time is still to be announced.
All applicants need banking information, photo ID and SIN # for applications to these companies. This is something that we can assist with if necessary.
GREEN CONSTRUCTION TRAINING PROGRAM!
A pilot course and learn practical and highly sought after green building skills. The training program will equip individuals (project coordinators, site safety officers, superintendents, etc.) with the skills and tools necessary to coordinate a green construction site.

This BusinessLink - Promoter training program is a partnership with BOB and Nasco to train and hire local people.
This 2 day training program will review customer service skills and include a 3 hour job shadow opportunity. After the program, everyone will be invited to interview for a Promoter position, just one of many positions available with Nasco.

Food Services Training
Millennium Development Corporation is committed to providing opportunities for 100 inner city residents on the largest residential construction project in North America. CORE Training Program graduates are able to succeed in a variety of roles throughout the construction industry. It is hoped the CORE Training Program will lead to long term employment in construction and the trades.
Past Training
The CORE Training Program is administered by Building Opportunities with Business on behalf of the City of Vancouver and Millennium Development Corporation. The Vancouver Regional Construction Association trainers instruct participants in everything from basic hand tool usage to the installation of the cutting edge insulation materials used in the Olympic Village. The training takes place at the RONA Fab Shop which all involved hope will continue to operate long after Olympic construction is complete providing the skilled workforce necessary to the success of modern construction projects.
CORE Construction Training
The CORE Training Program was on-going and open to residents of the inner-city and participants receive hands on training in the construction industry and a number of industry certifications. Armed with these skills and qualifications graduates are able to take advantage of opportunities available in the construction industry. One specific opportunity is to work on the Vancouver Olympic Village.

There are 2 main contractors on site, and a number of sub-trades. Currently, the types of jobs on site are: (this is constantly changing) Carpentry, windows, mechanical (plumbing), masonry, steel stud, drywall, flagging, etc. We have access to entry level, labour intensive positions. If you have apprenticeships, certification, experience or training we can definitely look into finding the right position. We cannot guarantee jobs in these areas as we are not the employers, but we try to find the right position for each person.
CORE Plus Renovation Crew
January 27 to February 13, 2009
Description: With the shifts and turns in the economy, we have had individuals who graduated from our CORE Construction Training Program who have been laid off and are no longer working.
Being sensitive to what is happening in the economy and in the work placements of our CORE graduates, and in partnership with the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA), we are putting together a short term opportunity. It will provide a 3 week work placement with advanced construction skills training and hours towards an apprenticeship while helping to restore a building in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, Hasting Street corridor.
CORE Training: (8 week program)
Dates: February 19th to April 18th, 2009
Week 1 through 2 – Pre-employment Training with Tradeworks
Week 3 through 6 – Basic Construction Training with VRCA
This includes:

This event will include an informational talk about the many possibilities in the Landscaping Industry, and an opportunity to meet employers, win door prizes, have refreshments and apply for the free BusinessLinks – Landscaping training program.
