Hanh Pham
ACHEIVEMENTS: Hanh was working as a part-time sorter at a courier depot when he was introduced to BOB. He wanted to learn a new skill and find a new passion for his career. He was particularly interested in attending the H.A.V.E. Culinary Training Program. Hanh was enrolled shortly after his interview for the course and has completed his training! He has now gained a new set of skills which he can apply to his new choice of career!
Byron Lieu
ACHEIVEMENTS: Byron was enrolled in ACCESS’s Essential Skills Class when he first heard of an employment opportunity which BOB was advertising. His passion for cooking indigenous foods and years of experience in working in the kitchen made him an ideal candidate for the position. Edgewater Casino quickly hired Bryon after one interview and he was hired as a second cook who would run the kitchen during graveyard hours. Congratulations Byron!
Huong
ACHIEVEMENTS: Huong was connected to us through BOB’s Building Services BusinessLinks Training. From the businessLinks, she obtained WHMIS certification and was offered a position with ABM Canada upon graduation. Her eagerness and willingness to work hard has made her an ideal employee to many. She also found employment with Atira’s Property Manager as a front desk/custodian as well as working as a cleaner for the Olympics.
Adam Giles
ACHIEVEMNTS: Adam was a participant of BOB’s London Drugs Woodward’s BusinessLinks Training. Through the BusinessLinks program, Adam showed great attitude and his eagerness was paid off when he was offered a permanent part-time customer service position. He has been employed for over 9 months and the management team at London Drugs have praised Adam on his work ethic and his contribution to the team.
Ilyas
ACHIEVEMENTS: When Ilyas was first connected to BOB, he was searching for a career path where he can do something he loves. After months of searching, Ilyas is now working part-time at a local restaurant and attends H.A.V.E. Café Culinary Training Program full-time.
SOLEfood Inner-City Farm
ACHIEVEMENTS: SOLEfood Inner-City Farm has continued to recieve praise in the community and abroad. To be visited soon by world renowned urban agriculturalist Will Allen, the excitement continues to build around this once underused plot of land on Hastings and Hawkes.
Several local residents-eager greenthumbs-have recieved training, instruction and eduction, through workshops and speaking engagements hosted by BOB. Seann Dory of United We Can recently commented on the enthusiasm in this group, eager to start farming in the coming months!
Trevor and Bekah, achieving together
ACHEIVEMENTS:Trevor came to BOB in the summer of 2009 after hearing about us through a friend at Salvation Army’s Belkin House. “If it hadn’t been for BOB we would’ve been in deep water” recalls Trevor.
Shortly after working with the BOB team he found a part-time job with AJK Moving then just before Christmas 2009 landed a full-time job that he felt ideally suited for. While Trevor was working hard at both jobs Bekah was studying full time at Granville Business College. After finishing the Veterinary Assistant Diploma there, she was
hired full time at the Fraser Heights Animal Hospital where she had done practicum work. She feels the Supported Employment Program at BOB was crucial in helping her transition:
“I wouldn’t have been able to get to work physically and start this new job without the help from BOB who offered the support through the SEP with things like meal vouchers and bus tickets.”
After several months of growth Trevor and Bekah began work on a business plan for a company they aim to launch in the near future. Congratulations on all your success Trevor and Bekah, from the whole team at BOB!
Trevor Gray
Achievements: When Trevor first came to BOB in the fall of 2009 he had just begun a new phase in his life. After years of dealing with substance abuse challenges he had decided to clean up, clear his mind, and enjoy life! After meeting with our friends and partners at SUCCESS, Trevor was referred to BOB to assist him in his job search. Trevor credits the the Business Links program, job fairs and Supported Employment Program, offered through BOB, for helping him make the transformation to the confident and hapilly employed person he is today. Trevor has now been at Nester's Food Floor at Woodward's since December 2009 and recently gave a presentation on customer service skills at a BOB BusinessLinks lunch!
John Lee
ACHIEVEMENTS: John received work in the kitchen at Edgewater Casino. He was able to get his Food Safe Certification through the Workforce Development Fund. He is very excited to be in the industry of his choice!
Roderick Green
ACHIEVEMENTS: “Bit by bit everything is coming together,” said Green. “Lani has helped me in so many ways. I can’t explain how grateful I am. This program worked for me and it could work for many, many others.” After completing the CORE Training Program, Roderick worked as a roofer. Unfortunately, after working successfully on the job for several months, Roderick had unexpected health issues. He continued to work with BOB, and began working at Atira on the Front Desk.
Simone Blakeney
ACHIEVEMENTS: Simone was placed with a plumbing company on Vancouver's Athlete's Village construction site as a part of the CBA. She completed her employment on site, doing very well in the plumbing industry. Once that was complete, she took part in the CORE Plus program where she received apprenticeship hours and worked on the renovations for 108 East Hastings, an unoccupied building on the Hastings corridor that is now being used as space for local artists. Simone is continuing her schooling in plumbing/sprinklers and hopes to further her career in the trades.

Maxwell Haywood
ACHIEVEMENTS:Heard about us through Barb at Triumph Vocational Services because Recycling Alternative had posted some positions to be filled through BOB.
He wanted to work outdoors – physical work. His work is great for him because he is able to use the forklift and not have to exert too much energy. This is important to him for medical reasons.
“Will and Lani have been a great help! Before this my situation was pretty terrible…suffering from depression…too much stress…had to go to hospital and have operation because of the stress I was under. Work is the key – it is essential. It is like breathing – I need to keep my mind active”
What’s next for Maxwell? He wants to move into a nice suite and take a well deserved vacation. “Now I have options.” He says.
Maggie Louie
ACHIEVEMENTS: Maggie has been working at Rona for over 2 years. She loves the employer and loves the work.
William Williams
ACHIEVEMENTS: William was referred to BOB through Belkin House. He is a very hard work and began back working for a construction company doing rebar.
Audz Jeferis
ACHIEVEMENTS: In recovery and two and a half years clean, Audz worked with Reza Roodi, Director of Recruitment and Counsellor at EMBERS Temporary Staffing Solutions, to transition back into the workforce.
A skilled carpenter, Audz has demonstrated excellent work ethic and skill on the job site. “I really enjoy working on this project,” she says, “it’s a great place to work and there are really good people here”. She has since been offered full-time employment at Bynett Construction and an opportunity to continue her apprenticeship. Congratulations Audz!
Tim Rantanen
ACHIEVEMENTS: Tim successfully completed a BOB BusinessLinks Customer Service training. He then found work at Recycling Alternatives through the BOB Job Postings. Tim’s dependable nature and kindness continue to do him well as he moves towards his goals.
Joseph Earl
ACHIEVEMENTS: “I had just found out I had a baby on the way. Finding work wasn't an easy task for a young, soon-to-be father like me.” Joseph applied online for The Home Depot )Terminal Ave( and was referred to BOB for follow up. A few days later he attended an interview and was offered a warehousing position. “When I arrived at BOB and started talking with the staff in the judgment free environment )I have a lot of tattoos and look a little rough around the edges(. I realized it was so much more than just a connection to a job. I'm very glad I was introduced to it, and though they would never say it or expect it, I feel I owe them for helping me out.”

ACHIEVEMENTS: BOB partnered with London Drugs that is opening in the Woodwards building on Hastings and Abbott. 15 people completed the preparation day.

ACHIEVEMENTS: Completed the Material Handler Training, and began work with VANOC in the warehouse.

ACHIEVEMENTS: Paul was placed into work on Vancouver’s Athlete Village construction site working with Metrocan. ACHIEVEMENTS: Charles began working in food services the summer of 2008. Charles participated in the H.A.V.E. Culinary Training program and has been working in local restaurants. He completed the SEP program and continues to work towards his goal of being a full time cook.

ACHIEVEMENTS: Michelle found temporary work through Embers Staffing Solutions. Her positive attitude rubbed off on everyone in the BOB office every time she walked in the door. That combined with her willingness to do whatever it took to do the job well helped her be successful on the job. Commenting on being connected with BOB, “Even just having you contact me once in a while, and letting me know what’s going on meant so much. It was moral support that I really needed. Now I’m moving into my own place that I can fix up, and my life is moving up!”

ACHIEVEMENTS: 8 inner city residents gained framing, drywall and finishing skills as well as apprenticeship hours. Funded by the Millennium CBA, BOB partnering with VRCA )Vancouver Regional Construction Association( to do on the job training while revitalizing an unused building along Hastings Street in the Downtown Eastside.
